Green Tourism at The Lion Hotel

At the Lion Hotel we are committed to running our business in a sustainable green manner, trying to minimise the environmental, economic and social impacts to ensure that Mid Wales is kept the way it is for the future.

Local, Organic, Fair Trade

Hearty breakfasts and home made evening meals are offered at the Lion Hotel, made using locally sourced ingredients. We try to source from local shops and business'. We have a small vegetable garden at the Lion Hotel and through the summer months we use all our own lettuce and herbs and other produce where possible. The eggs on our menu are from our own hens in the garden and guests can have the choice of quail eggs from our aviary.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

The aim of all aspects of the Lion Hotel is to 'reduce, reuse, recycle'. We try to use large containers to refill smaller dispensers, our toilet paper and tissues in the quest rooms are 100% recycled and the waste bin liners are biodegradable. Food waste is composted in our compost bins in the garden and some food waste is fed to the hens! We use the local council recycling bags and recycle plastic, paper, bottles, cans, plastic and cardboard.

Empty ink cartridges and old clothing and bedding is collected by the Primary School in the village and even used stamps and milk bottle tops are saved for charity.

We encourage our guests to re-use towels if they are happy to do so, not to leave the televisions on standby and to switch off lights when they leave their rooms.

We are continually looking for ways to reduce our environmental impact and will continue to monitor water and energy consumption.

How to find us

We encourage guests to arrive by public transport first and then car.

Guests are encouraged to use the local bus service and the time tables are in the guest information pack. Buses every two hours past Llanbister village and guests can actually travel from Newtown, Powys to Cardiff.

Collection is also offered from Llanbister Road, Llandrindod Wells and Newtown railway stations. A range of books, leaflets and local maps are available and information on local walking and cycle hire providers are also provided as well as local places of interest to visit.

Radnorshire Wildlife trusts has a couple of small parks near to The Lion and we can give you more information on how to get to them.

Countryside Code

The countryside Code reminds visitors to protect plants and animals, take litter away and to leave property as you find them. Dogs should be kept under control and you are asked to consider other people and users of the countryside.

Mid Wales and the old county of Radnorshire is a special unspoilt paradise. We hope you enjoy your visit with us and with commitment to working towards a sustainable green future the area will remain as beautiful as it is at present.
