As well as being situated in the centre of Wales and offering good accommodation and food, The Lion Hotel is an excellent bed and breakfast choice for a Mid Wales holiday or short break.

There is something for everybody whether you want an active or relaxing holiday. Visitors can enjoy our beautiful Mid Wales countryside on horses, bikes or on foot. They also have access to our private fishing rights on the river Ithon which is below the Hotel. Cycle hire or horse riding can easily be arranged and we can advise on transport if quests are interested in the two local National Trails, Offa’s Dyke footpath and Glyndwrs Way. The Kerry Ridgeway, the Severn Way and the Wye Valley Way can also be accessed using public transport. If guests at The Lion Hotel want to bring horses with them to explore the fantastic local scenery stabling and turnout areas can be provided. The Elan Valley Estate is a great area for either walking or cycling and The Lion Hotel, Llanbister is situated on the Radnor Ring Cycle route No 25.

There are other sporting options available in the area such as Clay Pigeon Shooting, Golf, Fishing Mountain Biking and we even have a Rally Driving School nearby. Ray Thomas one of the proprietors of The Lion Hotel is a former international shot and is willing to accompany guests and provide advice if needed. Bird watchers will also be well entertained in our unspoilt Mid Wales countryside and can visit the RSPB red kite feeding station at Rhayader. Dark Sky Enthusiasts are also slowly discovering the night time outstanding beauty of Mid Wales.

Clay Target Shooting with The Ray Thomas Shooting Experience based at an International Accredited Shooting Ground in beautiful Mid Wales. Your experience will include all equipment hire, clays and cartridges as well as expert tuition. You will given all the necessary training in safety techniques from a fully qualified instructor. The professionals are friendly and patient and will teach you how to handle the shotgun and shoot a variety of sporting targets, so you’ll be well prepared when you step up to have a go for yourselves, putting your aim and accuracy to the test.
